Colombian Buñuelos

Ingredients

  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • ¾ cup cornstarch
  • ¼ cup cassava flour or all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup costeno cheese
  • ½ cup fresh cheese (queso fresco or cuajada)
  • 2 eggs
  • ¼ tablespoon baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of milk

Preparation

  1. Take a medium bowl and pour in all the ingredients except the oil. Mix them well with your hands until the dough becomes smooth. Then form balls with this dough.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a very deep saucepan to 300°F. Slowly drop the balls into the hot oil. Cover the pan and wait about 3 to 4 minutes. Then increase the heat and fry the balls until golden brown.
  3. Remove the balls from the oil and drain them well on a plate covered with absorbent paper. All you have to do is serve them.
